 | Because education is more than just a building.Who We Are Students for teachers is a non-partisan, non-profit, student-led organization that was created to provide moral and material support to teachers in the Fluvanna County Schools. Our mission is to ensure that every good teacher feels appreciated and that they have the materials and supplies they need. We are accomplishing this by collecting donated teacher supplies and raising funds for teacher grants and awards. |
We are currently a group of approximately 12, mostly high school students with a few middle schoolers added in. Our group was started the summer of 2012, when the Fluvanna County School system began to suffer huge budget cuts. Wanting to do something practical to help our teachers be the best they can be, we started with a few bake sales. Over the course of that first year we collected supplies, held our first Back To School Picnic, held more bake sales, and spoke at both School Board and county Board of Supervisors meetings. We were able to give larger items requested by teachers because of the great support of our community members and several generous businesses.
Our mission is to include as many community members as possible to help get both students and teachers excited and ready for school, starting with giving teachers much-needed supplies and awarding grants for larger items and unique school-related opportunities. We are student-led and student-run, but appreciate help from volunteers of any age!
